Chocolate Gravy Recipe

When I was young, Saturday morning usually meant a big breakfast with fried potatoes, bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits and most importantly, Chocolate Gravy!!!!  Give this recipe a try.  You will love it.  My dad likes it with biscuits. I’ll eat it with anything!  If you decide to make this, the least you can do is invite me over since I shared this with you and you are going to need someone to taste test your new creation to make sure you have done it properly.  Yes, it is an inconvenience for me to travel to your home to make sure that you have prepared this properly, but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make for you:)
CHOCOLATE GRAVY
Makes: 1-1/4 cups (ten 2-tablespoon servings)

Start to Finish: 10 minutes

 Ingredients
  • 1/4  cup sugar
  • 2  tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1  tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1  tablespoon margarine or butter
  • 1-1/4  cups milk

Directions

1. In a small bowl stir together sugar, cocoa powder, and flour. In a medium saucepan melt the margarine or butter. Stir in the cocoa mixture until thoroughly mixed and no lumps are visible. Gradually add milk to saucepan, stirring constantly.

2. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture is thickened and bubbly; cook and stir 1 minute more. Serve over biscuits or shortcake. Makes 1-1/4 cups (ten 2-tablespoon servings).

Make-Ahead Tip: Leftover gravy can be covered and chilled for up to 2 days. To reheat 1/2 to 2/3 cup gravy, place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microcook on 100 percent power (high) for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, stirring once. Or, place the gravy in a small saucepan. Heat through over medium-low heat, stirring constantly.

Chocolate gravy is a pleasant memory from my childhood. Not many remember it, as I get blank stares whenever I ask people if they’ve heard of it. My mom made it often when I was a kid. Nothing better with butter and biscuits! Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.
